How to workout when you travel - ROAM Fitness

Last weekend I got the opportunity to try out ROAM Fitness, a new boutique gym that recently opened at BWI Airport.  And let me tell you — I was so excited at the idea of having somewhere to hangout pre-flight other than those super uncomfortable chairs — that I all but called up the husband and asked him when we could plan a trip somewhere that required flying.  Dramatic?  Me?  Never.

The amazing creators of ROAM Fitness have thought of e-v-e-r-y thing.  This small but mighty gym is not only bright and clean but fully stocked with the latest and greatest equipment, gear, and grub.

What if I don’t have room in my suitcase for workout clothes?

If you didn't pack yours or just didn't want to take them on the trip - your day pass includes a branded premium workout gear.  Shorts, tanks, tees, leggings, and yes even shoes are available if you so desire.  Just return them when you're done and ROAM takes care of the rest.  They also have plenty of merch available for purchase for when you realize those shorts were just so dang flattering.

What if my phone battery is about to die?

Lockers have built in outlets including USB ports for charging phones and other devices while you sweat.  Don't have your charging cord with you?  Don't worry they have those too!

What kind of equipment can they really fit in an airport gym?

I appropriately nicknamed this space "the tiny house of gyms" because they manage to fit every necessity into a relatively small space.  Cardio equipment, a full range of dumbbells + 2 benches, a stretching area that includes medicine balls, platforms, resistance bands, exercise balls, yoga mats, balance disks, and even a TRX system.

I’m going to want a healthy snack once I’m done with my workout.

ROAM features plenty of healthy snack and drink options such as Picky Bar, RXBar, Gundalow Juice, Krave Jerky, and Natalie's Craft Kombucha.

I would say the only downside is you don't have an actual trainer who's there kicking your butt to eek out that last rep of push ups.  What you DO have is an incredibly cheerful and accommodating staff who will help you with just about anything else.

ROAM Fitness is truly a traveling health and fitness junkie's dream spot.

My ultimate test.

Can one of my Get Strong Run Faster workouts be done at ROAM Fitness?  You bet — they had everything I needed to do the full circuit.  I also just HAD to try out the TechnoGym Skill Mill {if you don't know what that is please go Google it.  I'll wait here}, a non motorized treadmill that uses a uniquely curved bed + your body weight to move the belt.  You guys.  It was quite possibly a life changing experience and I may never be able to run on a "regular" treadmill ever again.

And when it comes to getting un-sweaty, pop into one of the 4 private shower rooms {which you can book for 15 minute intervals when you check in} and enjoy their spa like rain shower.  They've also thought of everything in that area too.  Fluffy white towels, Malin + Goetz soaps and lotions, all the tools and amenities you would expect from a spa and then some.  Not to mention a departure board so you can keep on eye on any potential flight delays and make sure to get to your gate on time.

If you're going to be traveling to or from BWI Airport anytime soon, you need check out ROAM Fitness — especially this amazing holiday BOGO deal{it's only good until the end of the year so get on it!}  Be sure to give them a like & a follow on Facebook, to stay up to date on other upcoming deals and NEW locations opening soon.

Let's chat - What do you think about airport gyms?  Is it about time this concept comes to fruition or is the airport your favorite time to catch up on your celebrity gossip mag {sometimes guilty}?
